Description:

Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP)’s “Existing Buildings, Carbon,
and Building Codes” project will undertake research, develop capacity-building
resources, and disseminate findings to prepare Canadian markets for the future
release and prompt adoption of retrofit codes.

Opportunities include:
1. Leveraging the cross-disciplinary knowledge base of the professions which comprise
CAHP’s membership and professionals who have valuable expertise and experience
applying building and energy codes to existing and heritage buildings to create
reference materials. This project will build on CAHP’s growing expertise on
sustainable approaches to existing and heritage buildings, which is an emerging area
of practice and a key part of climate resilience.
2. Carrying out these technical studies and research at a critical time when codes for
existing buildings are being developed presents the unique opportunity to prepare the
market with working solutions before retrofit codes are released, and not having to
play catch up over several code cycles.
3. Engaging CAHP’s Canada-wide network of professionals working across both the
public and private sectors to disseminate the results of the project will be far-reaching
and impactful to a diverse range of communities.
